Musical Instrument Digital Interface, or MIDI, ringtones became popular on cell phones around the world before the advent of polyphonic and real-music ringtones in the mid-2000s. MIDI ringtones have an electronic sound that's much more monophonic than later ringtones. You can now add many MIDI ringtones to your cell phone for free, in as wide a selection as you'll find for the more popular real-music tones.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Navigate on your computer to a free MIDI ringtone website, such as Mididelight.com.

  2. Step 2

Enter the name of an artist or song that you'd like to download into the "Search" bar at the top of the page.

  3. Step 3

Click the name of the song you'd like to download and click "Save" under "Download This Ringtone."

  4. Step 4

Choose a folder in which to save your ringtone on your computer and click "OK."

  5. Step 5

Insert either a USB cable attached to your phone or a memory card into your computer. Drag and drop the MIDI file from the folder where you saved it onto the new desktop icon for either the cable or the memory card.

  6. Step 6

Remove your phone from the USB cable, or remove the memory card from the computer and insert it into your phone. Find the MIDI file that's now saved on your phone and assign it as a ringtone.
