If you enjoy collecting and saving mementos, souvenirs and antiques to remind you of special occasions or just cherished memories, then creating your own keepsake website might be a terrific project for you to pursue. This is also a wonderful way to share your collection with family and friends. Your keepsake website can be as small or as large as you like and can grow over time. Here's how to get started creating your website.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Photographs of your keepsakes
  1. Step 1

Decide on both the aesthetic and technical layout for your intended site. Brainstorm ideas in a notebook or sketchbook for both the written and visual components to your webpage. Perhaps you are an avid traveler and would like to not only share images of your keepsakes but also where you acquired them and what makes them special or unique to you. For example, a video of a tour through some of your favorite antique shops mixed with images that you have taken of keepsakes you have acquired in previous excursions could be a wonderful way to present your collection. Adding audio to your videos or to a slideshow you create, in which you talk about your experiences, can be a wonderful way to share items that you hold dear.

  2. Step 2

Create a website yourself or, alternatively, hire a web designer to create your website for you. If you want to try to do it yourself, consider creating a layout for your website in a program like Photoshop. Unless you know html, you will need to use a webpage editor like Expression Web to help you build your pages. If you choose to hire a designer, be certain to take your sketches with you, along with your ideas, questions and even your concerns to discuss with any potential web designer you consider hiring. Ask the web designer for examples of his previous work.

  3. Step 3

Create subpages for each category of keepsakes. For instance, if you collect porcelain dolls, antique lockets and early 20th-century baseball cards, create hyperlinks on the first page to each of those categories. Consider linking to other sites with similar items.

  4. Step 4

Create a way to talk to visitors to your site. A blog, forum or even a section for comments is a terrific way to share your thoughts about your collection of keepsakes and talk to others about their own. One way to draw traffic to your website might be to write articles for your site related to your keepsakes. For example, if you have a large collection of porcelain dolls, write an article about the dolls, where they were manufactured or their value when appraised. This type of article could offer an interesting read to visitors and would also provide them an opportunity to comment. If you choose to write articles, include personal stories and anecdotes along with the facts you present.
