Using a laptop with sticking keys can make your work or gaming suffer. It is difficult to play a game or type a memo when one key continues to repeat. This will cause unnecessary use of the backspace key. You can efficiently clean a sticking key on your laptop keyboard without taking it in for service. In addition, you do not need to take the keyboard apart to clean effectively.

Things You'll Need:

  • Cotton swab Rubbing alcohol Rag
  1. Step 1

Shut down the laptop. Keep the lid open for access to the keyboard.

  2. Step 2

Dip the cotton swab in warm water. Press the surplus of liquid out of the swab with your fingers.

  3. Step 3

Rub the swab around the sticky key. Push down so the swab can maneuver around key slits.

  4. Step 4

Use the dry end of the cotton swab. Dunk into rubbing alcohol. Again, squeeze the swab to remove any excess liquid.

  5. Step 5

Wipe the cotton swab over and around the sticky key. Add pressure to clean around the key.

  6. Step 6

Rub the rag over the keyboard to remove any seeping liquid. Clean around the key, using your finger to compress the cloth into the slits.

  7. Step 7

Let completely dry before turning on the laptop. This may take roughly two hours, depending on the temperature.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not use cleaning chemicals on the laptop keyboard. Do not smoke, drink liquid or have sticky fingers when typing on the laptop keys. This will prevent sticking keys.
