Having the convenience of all your favorite songs uploaded to your iPod is a luxury like no other, but getting that music onto your iPod can be confusing if you're not familiar with Apple products and software. You can download music from CDs, the iTunes store and other music stores to listen to on your iPod after following a few simple steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Charge your iPod by plugging into your computer using the USB port and the cord that came with your iPod. Before you can load music onto your iPod, you will need to charge the device.

    • 2

Plug your iPod in to the USB port to prompt the installation of Apple's iTunes software. Install the latest version of iTunes and accept the terms of use agreement.

    • 3

Insert your favorite CDs into the CD-Rom. This will bring up a prompt asking if you would like to open this CD up in iTunes.

    • 4

Select the tracks from the CD that you would like to upload to your iTunes Library. The songs will download into your library, and you will later sync them to your iPod.

    • 5

Use your Internet connection and a credit card and/or Paypal account to sign up for the iTunes store. Search the iTunes store for your favorite music, podcasts, videos and even audio books to download.

    • 6

Select songs from the iTunes store and approve your payment information when you are prompted to do so. These songs will then appear in your iTunes library.

    • 7

Create and edit your iTunes library. Set up playlists by preferred categories so you know where to find your songs once they are loaded onto your iPod.

    • 8

Go to the "File" menu in the upper left-hand corner. Choose the "Synch iPod" command while your iPod is still plugged into the jack, and transfer all music you have added to your library onto your iPod.

Tips & Warnings

  • Monitor how much space remains on your iPod by watching the GB bar on your Summary page. Browse competitive sites like limewire.com, rhapsody.com and even Amazon.com, which offer music downloads for competitive prices. These songs can be added to your iTunes library and uploaded to your iPod. Consider downloading freeware music from sites like incompetech.com.
