How to Write the Best Cover Letter
One thing that typically trips job seekers up is how to write a cover letter. I think the reason that so many people find it difficult to do, is that it takes a little more creativity to write a letter than it does to write a resume. After all a cover letter is nothing more than a marketing letter. Here is a basic outline of what type of information should be included in a cover letter as well as how to organize it. Keep in mind that a cover letter should be around four paragraphs long. Here's how to write the best cover letter for your resume.

At the top left of the page, include the following information about the person and company that you are writing to:
Date
Name of Employer
Title of Employer
Company Name
Address -

Address the letter as follows:
If you have a specific person's name, then address the letter as "Dear Name:"Otherwise address the letter as follows: "Dear Company Representative/ Human Resources Representative/Hiring Manager:"

In the first paragraph, tell them that you are writing because you are interested in the position (name the position as listed in the ad). Also list where you saw or heard about the job opening. If a current employee of the company mentioned it to you, make sure to include their name here. Also mention that you are enclosing/attaching your resume.

In the second paragraph, list several of your qualifications that are best suited for this position. Don't list everything on your resume, simply highlight one or two areas. If you have past experience at jobs that are directly related to this job, be sure to mention it.

In the third paragraph, address any requirements that are specified in the job ad. For example, if relocation is not covered, mention that you would be moving to the area any way. If it mentions local candidates preferred, mention that you have lived in the community for a long time.

In the fourth paragraph, close by asking for an interview and stating that you look forward to hearing from them soon. Some people would recommend that you propose a date/time for the meeting however, I wouldn't do this. Most employers are busy and it's best to let them pick the time. Finally, thank them for their time and for considering you as a candidate.

Close your letter with a signature as follows:
