Yogurt Cheese

You can make yogurt cheese simply and quickly with this easy recipe! Yogurt cheese made from plain yogurt can be used in place of mayonnaise, sour cream or cream cheese in recipes and is often a healthier alternative because of the "good bacteria" present in yogurt.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Line a collender, or strainer with cheese cloth, or use a permanent coffee filter.

  2. Step 2

Place something underneath to catch the liquid that is strained from the yogurt. Cover with plastic wrap.

  3. Step 3

As an alternative to the 2 steps above, you can purchase a yogurt strainer online. It works very well and cleans up easily. See the resource section below.

  4. Step 4

Place the yogurt in the refrigerator and wait for it to become yogurt cheese. After 3 hours your yogurt will be the consistency of sour cream. After 24 hours it will be the consistency of cream cheese. It can be used alone as a condiment, or substituted for other dairy products in recipes.
