Step 1
Set a Budget: Setting a budget for an online organizer is important. To me having my photos, documents and correspondence someplace else besides my computer is almost priceless but I wouldn't recommend spending more than it would cost you to have a crashed computer restored. Remembering that data recovery could run into the thousands and take a considerable amount of time you have to determine how much you are willing to pay each month or quarter for the security and ease of use of an online organizer. A basic online organizer should be somewhere around $25.00-$30.00 per month, an encrypted organizer will cost a bit more so depending on your needs and budget choose an online line organizer that meets or exceeds your needs within your budget.
-
Step 2
Estimate the Storage Space Needed: There is no sense signing up for an online organizer that can not hold your documents, calenders and notes. One of the easiest ways to determine what volume of storage you will utilize is to look at your my documents, my photos etc folders and then double the space used for them, giving you the ability to add and organize everything on your online organizer with room to add. 4GB, 10GB, 20GB or even 50GB storage options are available on most organizer plans so I am sure you can choose one that's perfect for you.
-
Step 3
Select the Best Security Option: Even the free online organizers will have password security but there are online organizers that offer 128 secure socket layer bit encryption that is commonly used on bank servers and you might want to be able to advertise that should you set up an online organizer with your business customers in mind. Being able to offer encrypted data transfer may be worth the little bit extra.
-
Step 4
Review the Contract and Upgrade Options: One of the most important things with any paid service is to completely review the contract. I never want to lock into a service contract for years and years. Month to month or a short term contract usually works best for an online organizer so that you can verify that you are going to get the most out of it and not pay a cancellation fee if your circumstances change. And you need to check to make sure if you pay for the smallest plan but find out that you really need more space you can upgrade at anytime.
-
Step 5
Check Ease of Use: To me this is very important. I don't want a calender that is too hard to post updates to or read and I want to be able to locate and organize all of my documents with ease. Every online organizer service provider should have some type of trial membership or online tutorials that you can explore before signing up for service.
