Save

Sunflower seeds are full of protein, fiber, vitamins and minerals, which are all necessary for optimal health. Make your own sunflower seed butter to save money and prevent unnecessary ingredients from being added. Sunflower seed butter is a great alternative for those who are unable to consume nuts due to allergies or other reasons. Enjoy this butter on sandwiches, crackers, fruit or anywhere peanut butter is generally used.

Things You'll Need

  • Food processor
  • Vegetable oil
  • Remove sunflower seeds from their shells.

  • Place sunflower seeds in a food processor and run it on high speed until a paste forms, roughly 30 to 45 seconds.

  • Check the consistency of the sunflower seed butter. Leave pieces of seeds for a "chunky" version or blend until completely smooth.

  • Add a small amount of vegetable oil if the texture of the sunflower seed butter is dry or crumbly -- mix for a few seconds to incorporate the oil.

Tips & Warnings

  • Store sunflower butter refrigerated in an airtight container. It is good for approximately a year.
