Nursing is a economic proof job that will probably always show a high demand. Training to become a nurse can become greatly expensive. Becuase nursing is such a job that needs qualified people the government offers several grant programs to off set expenses to those that show promise.

  1. Step 1

    The easiest way to get a full ride scholarship to become a nurse through government grant programs is by getting a job with a health care facility. To start, you do not even need to be a nurses aid, you could be a house keeper as long as you are employed by the same company as the nurses there are. Many health care facilities are rewarded grant money to help train their employees. Many time a employee in good standing that has been employed for at least six months can seek employer repayment or payment of education express for the health care field. As you have been there a year you may qualify for the company to pay full expenses to become a RN or LPN. Just make sure you know what is expected of you after graduation. Many companies require you to sign a three year contract stating that you will continue working for them.

  2. Step 2

    Consider working in a low income area in great need of nurses. No you do not need to go to a third world country, many places in the US are considered to be in high need. There is probably some areas in your home state. Grants are usually given to repay student loans. To find such grants look for employment with a clinic that employs a sliding fee scale for low income families. Ask your adviser about the Nursing Education Loan Repayment program and/or the Indian Health Service Loan Repayment Program.

  3. Step 3

    If you are a nursing student that comes from a low income or other wise stated to be at a disadvantage due to a disability you may qualify for extra government assistance. The Federal government gives grant funds directly to qualifying school to help students that other wise could not go to college attain a education. Individual schools are responsible for looking over applications and giving the funds to those in need. Contact your school for more information.

Tips & Warnings
  • Many of the programs require you to go through the nurses training before your receive the grant. To help pay expenses now contact your school for no to low interest loans for Nursing Degree Majors.
  • Usually after you are accepted into a government school repayment program, the agency takes over your loan. If you are unable to stay with your contract you usually have to take back over the loan. However, you usually do not have to repay what was already paid.
  • Undergraduate grant programs show favoritism to individuals that have had some experience in the health care field.
