Want to go become a barber and just need some grants help to pay for the training. Tuition to become a barber will differ on where you live, what time of day you want to attend school and the education of the trainers. Barber programs generally range between $6,500 and $10,000 for a training period of nine to 24 months. Because barbering is a profession and does require certifications grants can be found to pay for school tuition, books and other supplies.

  1. Step 1

    The best place in starting the process in finding funding to become a barber is to complete Federal Financial Aid packet for student aid or other wise known a FASFA. You can find free copy online or at your local library.

  2. Step 2

    Next step is to compare schools. not all barber school are equal when it comes to finding grant money. Even if the school's initial cost is a hair more they might have more funds available for grant assistance. Talk with the barber schools admission's office to find out if you can use federal student aid at the school. If not move on to one that does, this will also open you up for more scholarships and grants.

  3. Step 3

    American Association of Cosmetology Schools (AACS) partners with industry sponsors to offer scholarships and grants to deserving cosmetology students. This also applies to those seeking to attend barber school. Check out www.beautyschools.org for more information.

  4. Step 4

    Look through data bases such as oedb.org that lists grants opportunities my career choice. Look for grants under cosmetology and barber school.

Tips & Warnings
  • You must be 16 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED to enroll in most barber school programs.
  • You may also check into a two or three year barber apprenticeship through your states education department.
  • Once you obtain your license to become a barber you will have to earn a minimum number of continuing education hours each year to retain certification and licensing.
