Are you in school and need to write a professional looking paper? Need advice, tips? Well hopefully this will help you.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • paper
  • pencil
  • time
  1. Step 1

There are five basic techniques to writing a Thesis (Essay) paper. Follow these simple steps and you will be on your way to creating an excellent paper!

    Step 1: Free writing.
Free writing is jotting down rough sentences or phrases everything that comes to your mind about your topic. I was told to set a timer for 5 minutes and just continuously write about the topic. You will be able to generate more information with what you just jotted down. You will actually surprise yourself.

  2. Step 2

    Step 2: Questioning.
In this step you ask yourself why, when, where, who and how about the topic. This is a good way to get yourself thinking about the topic from a number of different angles.

  3. Step 3

    Step 3: Make a List.
Also known as Brainstorming. With making a list you collect details and ideas that relate to your topic. Example, Topic: City driving, roads are congested and lots of street signs and people.

  4. Step 4

    Step 4: Clustering.
Clustering is also a diagram. Branch out all your ideas. When you write an idea, write a positive and negative thing (if possible) about it.

  5. Step 5

Step 5: Prepare a Scratch Outline.
Preparing a scratch outline will follow all the other techniques. It will also let you see if you need to brush up on one of the other techniques. If you cannot come up with a solid outline than you will need to do more pre writing. Think carefully about the point you are trying to make and all the supporting items for that point. The scratch outline is considered a blueprint or a plan to help you achieve a supported, well organized essay.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember to write atleast 2 drafts and revise and edit where needed. If you find using one technique works better for you; use that one more.
  • Don't forget to use spell check!
