By now, you have probably heard the phrase "champing a black and mild". You might have even seen someone champing one right in front of you. What they are doing is removing the filter paper inside of the cigar to make it taste better. It's not all that hard to do, but it can take time to champ Black and Milds if you don't know what you're doing. Here is a quick tutorial on how to effectively champ a Black and Mild.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Black and Mild
  • Container (optional)
  1. Step 1

SLIDE THE CLEAR WRAPPING PAPER TO THE END OF THE BLACK AND MILD. Don't remove it completely; make sure it is still attached to the cigar end. Otherwise, you'll lose all the tobacco.

  2. Step 2

SLOWLY ROLL THE BLACK AND MILD BETWEEN YOUR HANDS. Clamp you hands together, and put the Black and Mild in between. Begin rolling the cigar back and forth. You want to make the tobacco slide out of the Black and Mild and into the wrapping paper. You also might want to do this over a container like a bowl or a cup, so you can catch and stray tobacco.

  3. Step 3

REMOVE THE LIGHT BROWN FILTER PAPER. Once all the tobacco is out of the cigar, put it to the side, and turn the Black and Mild upwards so you can see inside of it. Look for the light brown filter paper on the inside. Remove the paper by pulling it out of the cigar. If the filter does not come off easily, it most likely means that too much glue was used when making the Black and Mild, and you won't be able to champ it.

  4. Step 4

RE-INSERT TOBACCO INTO CIGAR. Reattach the wrapper paper full of tobacco to the end of the Black and Mild. Hold the two together, and slowly slide the tobacco back into the Black and Mild.

  5. Step 5

ENJOY. Make sure that the tobacco is safely inside the cigar. Twist the end if you have to, to keep it inside. Now enjoy your freshly champed Black and Mild!
