Noisemakers aren't just for New Year's celebrations; you can use them year-round for other parties or to keep the kids busy. The easiest noisemakers to make are the rattle type. Even young children can get into the action and help make their own. Use things from your craft stash and from around the house to make these colorful and loud noisemakers. Have fun thinking of items to add to make your noisemaker rattle.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Soda can Construction paper Tape Markers Craft stick Hot glue Flat head screwdriver Seeds, beads or pebbles
  1. Step 1

Poke a hole in the center of the bottom of the can with the flat head screwdriver. Place a craft stick in the hole and hot glue in place. An adult should do this part.

  2. Step 2

Cut a strip of construction paper that is 9 inches long by 4-1/2 inches wide. Decorate it with your markers.

  3. Step 3

Fill the can with your noise material through the drinking opening. Sunflower seeds, small beads and pebbles, or dried beans can be used. Fill the can approximately 1/5-full and tape over the opening so they don't fall out.

  4. Step 4

Cut a circle of construction paper the same size as the top of the can. Tape or glue it to the top of the can to disguise the opening.

  5. Step 5

Wrap the decorated strip of paper around the can and tape in place. Hold the noisemaker by the craft stick handle and shake to make noise.

Tips & Warnings
  • Beads and other small items are a choking hazard, so supervise young children when making and using the noisemaker.
