Things You'll Need:
- Something that makes white noise (vacuum cleaner, blender, radio static, white noise machine, etc.)
- Blanket for swaddling (for easy swaddling, try the Miracle Blanket)
- Pacifier or your finger
-
Step 1
Make sure to swaddle your baby first before trying to soothe him in other ways. This makes him feel like he's back in the womb. Try searching Google for how to swaddle a baby with a regular blanket. Also, the Miracle Blanket works well for an easy swaddle that is hard for babies to break out of.
-
Step 2
Play some white noise. Try static from the radio, running a vacuum cleaner, running your blender, or saying a loud "shhhh" into your baby's ear. The louder the shush, the better.
-
Step 3
Allow your baby to suck on a pacifier or your finger. Sucking helps your baby soothe himself.
-
Step 4
Also try bouncing your baby on your lap or gently jiggling his head (not shaking him hard). Your baby was bounced around in the womb so this helps him feel more at home.
