How to Calculate Babip

Batting average on balls in play, or BABIP, measures the percentage of balls put in play by a batter, excluding home runs, that result in a hit. An average BABIP is around .290, and a consistently high or low BABIP is very difficult to maintain. This is possibly because it is highly influenced by luck and other factors out of the pitchers hands.
