A GPS (short for "Global Positioning System") device can be a useful tool. GPS uses satellites to triangulate your position and give you turn-by-turn directions from where you are to where you've told it you are going. Despite this, as with all computer-based systems, GPS tracking systems can sometimes act in ways that are not desired. Use this article as a guide as you troubleshoot Nextel GPS tracking.

Things You'll Need:

  • A Nextel GPS
  1. Step 1

Go outdoors. If you are inside and your Nextel GPS cannot locate a signal, this is probably because the walls of the structure you are inside are too thick to allow the signal to pass from the satellites to the GPS. Go outdoors and try to use your Nextel GPS again.

  2. Step 2

Update your device's maps. If your Nextel GPS is having trouble finding the location you need directions to, it could be that your maps are out of date. By going to the website for your particular model of device, you can update the maps the GPS uses to give you directions to their most current versions.

  3. Step 3

Reset your device. If your device cannot find a signal or it is taking an unusually long time to calculate directions, simply turning your device on and off will more than likely do the trick. This will reset the device and clear its memory.
