How to Find Out Server Information for an Email Address

Typically, when you receive an email in your inbox and open it, you see very basic information at the top of the message, including who the email was sent by, who it was intended for and when it was sent. Using the Internet headers feature of Microsoft Outlook, you can also find out server information about an email message or address, which will tell you the path the email traveled after being sent.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • PC running Windows XP or later Microsoft Outlook 2003 or later
  1. Step 1

    Open the Start menu and click on the "Microsoft Outlook" icon.

  2. Step 2

    Choose "Inbox" from the list of mail folders on the left side of the main Outlook window.

  3. Step 3

    Double-click on the email message or address that you wish to find out sever information about.

  4. Step 4

    Open the "View" menu at the top of the message window and select "Options."

  5. Step 5

    Scroll down to the "Internet Headers" section to find out server information for the email message and the sender's address.
