Things You'll Need:
- Microscope Battery or power source for illuminator Slides Flat desk or table

Step 1
Carry the microscope by holding the arm with one hand and supporting the base with the other hand. Place the microscope flat on a desk or table, keeping it away from the edge.

Step 2
Turn the nosepiece to the lowest setting, which is the shortest objective lens. It is usually marked as 10X.

Step 3
Place the slide on the stage with the specimen in the center. Secure the slide with the stage clips.

Step 4
Turn the focus knob and move the objective lens toward the slide as close as possible without touching it.

Adjust the illuminator or mirror to allow light to pass through the slide into the eyepiece.

Step 6
Move the focus knob to a position that brings the image into the sharpest focus. Move the slide around to see different views of the specimen.

Step 7
Turn the nosepiece to change the objective power to get more magnification if needed. Move the objective away from the slide before changing the lens.

Step 8
Cover the microscope with the dust cover after you are finished using it.
