If you have a portable MP4 player, such as a video iPod, and you want to be able to view your Blu-ray movie collection on your MP4 player, you will need to convert the Blu-ray video files to MP4 video files. In order to do this, the Blu-ray video file first has to be ripped off of the Blu-ray disc. The quickest way to do this is with software, such as Blu-Ray DVD Ripper, that can do the rip and the conversion at the same time.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Blu-Ray DVD Ripper Blu-Ray disc drive on your computer
  1. Step 1

Navigate to the website for iToolSoft software (see Resources below).

  2. Step 2

Download the Blu-Ray DVD Ripper software from the iToolSoft website and install the program to your computer. The software has a free trial period, but you'll have to buy a license (2009 price: $49.95) if you want to keep it.

  3. Step 3

Insert your Blu-ray disc into the DVD drive on your computer. The drive must be a Blu-ray disc drive for your computer to read the disc. If any programs automatically open to play the disc, you will need to close them.

  4. Step 4

Open Blu-Ray DVD Ripper on your computer. Select MP4 from the pop-down menu near "Profile" to set your output file type.

  5. Step 5

Select your Blu-ray file by clicking on the "Open Blu Ray" button on the bottom-left corner of the screen. It is the button with the blue DVD on it.

  6. Step 6

Rip and convert the file by clicking on the "Rip Blu Ray" button in the bottom-right corner with the circle of green arrows on it. The rip and conversion will go fairly quickly. When it is done, a completion message will appear and you will need to click "OK." The Blu-ray disc will eject, and you will be able to use the new MP4 files.
