1. Go to the official database for the NAUPA (National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrator) to find unclaimed money owed to you. I have provided a link in the resource section for their website.

2. Enter your last name, first name, and the current state you live in. You can also search the names of your family members to see if they have any unclaimed money as well.

3. Locate your name on the list. Once the results are displayed you need to check to see if it is your money or not. Match your name with the city, town, or date to verify that it is yours.

4. If you discover that there might be money that belongs to you in an old bank account, find out if the bank is still in business. For that, go to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation's Web site.

5. If you discover that you do have unclaimed money then you need to find out the process you need to complete. You will usually have to download forms to fill out and mail them.
