How to Make Your Own Contact Lens Solution

Pre-made contact lens solutions can cost more than $10 for 16 ounces, but you can make your own for about one-twentieth the cost. All you need are saline packets and hydrogen peroxide and you are in business, saving a lot of money each year on your eye-care costs.

Instructions

  1. Homemade Contact Lense Solution

    • 1

Open the container of sinus rinse packets and drop four individual packets into the hydrogen peroxide bottle.

    • 2

Allow packets to dissolve completely, and gently shake the bottle of hydrogen peroxide to mix thoroughly.

    • 3

Store the bottle in your bathroom, and use it to keep your lens cleaning case full.

Tips & Warnings

  • Each Neilmed sinus and rinse packets is designed to be used in eight ounces of water. If you buy a bottle of hydrogen peroxide that is more or less than 32 ounces, you must adjust the number of packets to add to the solution. The ratio is one packet per eight ounces of hydrogen peroxide.

  • This solution has to be used with a platinum catalyst in your lens cleaning case. The hydrogen peroxide disinfects the contact lenses but is not good for your eyes. The platinum catalyst neutralizes the peroxide to oxygen and water so your eyes are not damaged.
