When creating a new user account on a PC computer running Windows XP or later, you are instructed to assign the account a login password. If the account will be used primarily by someone other than yourself, you may want to create a change user password command, which will force the user to change the password upon first login.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Log on to your PC computer, using an administrator account.

  2. Step 2

Open the Start menu and click on the "Control Panel" icon.

  3. Step 3

Double-click on the "Administrative Tools" icon, and then open the "Computer Management" console program.

  4. Step 4

Go to the "Local Users and Groups" section on the left side of the window, and then double-click on the "Users" button to view a list of all active accounts on the computer.

  5. Step 5

Right-click on the account that you want to create a change user password command for and select "Properties."

  6. Step 6

Make sure that the "Password never expires" option is unchecked, and then check the box next to "User must change password at next logon."

  7. Step 7

Click "Apply" to save the settings. The user will now be forced to change the password upon next login.
