Grow A Fig Tree in a Container

I love Figs! There is nothing as sweet as a fresh from the tree Fig. I grew up having fresh Figs in the summer, but I don't have enough room in my yard to plant a Fig Tree. I decided to grow my Fig Tree in a container on my patio. Not only do we enjoy the fruit from our Fig Tree, but it is also a beautiful addition to our outdoor landscape. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Choose the variety of Fig Tree you plan on growing. The easiest type is a self pollinating variety such as Celeste, Kadota, Black Mission, Brown Turkey or Texas Everbearing.

    • 2

Buy a large container. It should be at least 24 inches in diameter. The container can be made of any material.

    • 3

Plant your Fig Tree deeply in the soil. After your tree has been set in and cover with soil, add a layer of mulch to the container. Mulch will help to control nematodes.

    • 4

Prune your Fig Tree. They can be pruned back to the size you want them to be. Keep them to a size you can manage, if you plan on bringing them in for the winter.

Tips & Warnings
