Things You'll Need:
- You will need, Jumper Cables and another vehicle
-
Step 1
I will start with the obvious. You will need to locate the battery in both vehicles. On some models under the hood you will actually find posts with a red cap, and one with a black cap. Remember this always, red is positive and black is negative. This is very important.
-
Step 2
Once you have located the batteries or jumper post on both vehicles, you will have to hook up the jumper cables. You will notice that the jumper cables are also red and black. This is to help avoid confusion. If you put the cables on backwards it will hurt the electrical system on the vehicles. Pace the cables on the car that won't start first. Red to red and black to black. Make sure the other ends of the jumper cables don't touch each other as they can short the battery. Now, connect the jumpers to the donor car. It is important to hook up the positive cable first(red) then the negative cable (black).Once all are connected, start the donor car.
-
Step 3
Now, wait approximately 2-3 minutes and try to start the car with the dead battery. The car should turn over and start right up. Once the car is started, remove the cables from the donor car, starting with the positive cable, then the negative cable. Then remove from the started car and you are all set.
