How to Test a Notebook Battery

A notebook, or laptop, battery is the life of the computer. Without it, the notebook will not function. You need a battery in order to run a notebook. Also, the battery must be charged, or it will not work. A notebook is only of any use if the battery is installed and charged. In most notebooks, the battery is easily accessible. If you turn your notebook over, there is sometimes a switch that you can press to one side to release the battery. You will notice how heavy and sometimes large it is, depending on the age and size of the notebook.

Instructions

1. Attach the power cord to your notebook (if it is not already.) If you are unsure where on your notebook to plug it in, check the design of the connector and match it up with the input on the back of your notebook.

2. Press the power button on your computer. If your computer turns on and starts loading, then your battery is working properly. If not, then your battery is not working, and you should troubleshoot further from there.

3. Check the battery's charge percentage when your computer is turned on and loaded. You can find this in the system tray in the lower right hand corner of the screen. If the charger is plugged in, it will say 100 percent. When you unplug the charger, it will tell you how much battery life is remaining.

Tips & Warnings

• If your notebook will not turn on even when you have plugged in the power cord, make sure the power cord is connected to an outlet, and that your power cord is connected correctly on the back of your notebook. If you have done this and it is still not working, check to make sure the notebook's power supply is working correctly.

• Do not check any internal parts of your notebook unless your notebook is turned off (such as the battery or power supply.) You do not want to risk hurting yourself (such as a shock) or damaging computer parts.
