How to Clean a Marmot Sleeping Bag
After a number of camping trips, there's a good chance your Marmot sleeping bag may be covered with dirt and debris. Given the materials it is made of, the bag should not be dry cleaned. No worries, though, as washing it yourself is actually quite easy. However, because of its Gore-Tex fabric construction, size and down filling, there are some special instructions you must follow to properly care for your Marmot sleeping bag.
Things You'll Need
- Granger's Down Wash Plus Granger's G-Wash Cleaner Plus (optional) Front-loading washing machine Low-temperature dryer
Instructions

1
Purchase Granger's Down Wash Plus, which Marmot recommends for its Gore-Tex fabrics. Normal laundry detergents are not suitable for Gore-Tex as they may leave a residue on the fabric, which may ruin it.
-
2
Head to your local laundromat with your sleeping bag. You'll need to use a large-size front-loading washing machine.
-
-
3
Place the sleeping bag in the machine with the Granger's Down Wash Plus detergent.
-
4
Choose warm water for both the wash and rinse cycles. Marmot does not recommend using hot or cold water.
-
5
Place your sleeping bag in a low-temperature dryer after the wash and rinse cycles are complete. Marmot recommends placing two unused tennis balls into the dryer to help fluff the bag and keep clumps of down from forming in the bag.
-
6
Make sure the sleeping bag is completely dry before removing it from the dryer. It may take four to six hours to completely dry.

Tips & Warnings
Marmot recommends using Granger's G-Wash Cleaner Plus spray as a spot-cleaner for very dirty areas. Spray 'n Wash or Shout may also be used.
Down sleeping bags should not be washed in your home machine. Home washing machines are not large enough to accommodate the bag's size and may damage the bag. The sleeping bag should be dried in a low-temperature dryer.
