How to Pickpocket Throwing Knives
In Assassin's Creed on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC, you play the role of Altair, an elite killer from a guild of assassins. Through the course of the game you begin to acquire an arsenal of weaponry to fulfill your assassination missions. From a distance, the throwing knife can instantly kill a target upon contact. Your cache of knives is limited, starting off at 5 in the beginning of the game but increasing to 15 near the end. However, they can be replenished by pickpocketing them from Thugs on the local streets.

Find a Thug on the streets. These characters wear brown leather suits, have a much larger build than regular citizens, and wear belts that crisscross from shoulder to shoulder.

Walk behind the Thug by gently pressing on the left analog stick for the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, while you use the WASD keys on the PC without pressing space to sprint. You character walks faster than the Thug, so you will eventually catch up to him.

When you are just a few paces away, press the B button for the Xbox 360, circle for the PS3, or shift for the PC to extend your hand to grab. Ensure you are facing his back so he does not see you because, if he does, you will begin fighting each other, which will alert the other Thugs or Sentries nearby.

Wait for the confirmation message that you have pickpocketed a throwing knife. This event occurs when your hand makes contact with the Thug's belt where the knives are kept.

Immediately press the opposite direction you were walking to face your back on the Thug. Start walking away to prevent your presence from being known and alerting either the Thug or the walking guards.
