Instructions
-
Putting the duvet together
-
1
Buy two top/flat sheets in the color or design of your choice.
-
2
Lay the first flat sheet on the floor, making sure the side facing upward is the "pretty" side.
-
-
3
Lay the second sheet on top of the other sheet, making sure the side facing downward is the "pretty" side.
-
4
Baste the three sides of the two sheets together.
Do not sew the top side of the sheets together. (The top side is where you find the thick hem and is usually found at the top of the bed where the pillows are laid.)
-
5
Use the sewing machine to stitch the three sides together.
Applying the Velcro
- 6
-
7
Sew the first Velcro strip to the inside of the bottom sheet, 1 inch from the edge of the sheet.
-
8
Sew the adjoining piece of Velcro to the opposite sheet 1 inch from the edge of the sheet. Make sure when you are finished sewing them that they join together easily.
-
9
Sew the first Velcro strip to the inside of the bottom sheet, 1 inch from the other edge.
-
10
Sew the adjoining piece of Velcro to the opposite sheet 1 inch from the other edge. You should be able to join these two pieces easily. Notice that both of the edges of the duvet cover should join together.
-
11
Sew a piece of Velcro to the very center of the duvet, then sew the adjoining piece of Velcro to the facing sheet. The top of the duvet cover is being held together by three pieces of Velcro now.
-
12
Sew the Velcro pairs between both of the edges and the center Velcro piece. When you have finished, you now have a duvet cover that is joined all the way across with five Velcro pairs.
Using Your Finished Duvet Cover
-
13
Unfasten the Velcro pairs and turn the cover inside out. You will now have the "pretty" part of the sheets showing.
-
14
Insert the comforter. Put the comforter inside and shake it so that the comforter's edges are laying in the edges of the duvet cover.
-
15
Shake the comforter and duvet cover. The comforter's edges should be laying in the edges of the duvet.
-
16
Attach the Velcro strips all the way across the top.
-
17
Put the duvet on your bed.

Tips & Warnings
Remember that you will no longer need top sheets because you can wash the duvet cover each time you wash the bottom sheet. This article suggests using five Velcro strips across the top of the duvet, however, you can use more Velcro strips if desired.
Make sure that the sheets are a darker color than the comforter you will put inside the duvet cover. You do not want to see the comforter design through the duvet. Some people prefer to put the Velcro side at the bottom because the Velcro can be rough on your skin.
