How to Fold an Origami Book

The arts of bookmaking and origami have been around for centuries. There are numerous different bookmaking techniques available today. The origami book is a simple technique using only one sheet of paper and a pair of scissors. With just three folds and a few minutes, you can make an origami book that is ready to be filled with information.

Things You'll Need

• Paper Scissors Bone folder (optional)

Instructions

1. Lay out the paper on your work surface with the long side facing you.

2. 

   Fold the paper in half horizontally, crease, and open up.

3. 

   Fold the paper in half across the width and crease, but do not open.

4. 

   Fold the paper in half again, and crease.

5. 

   Open partially and cut on the marked crease.

6. 

   You should now have a piece of paper that looks like this, with the cut area in the middle.

7. 

   Fold the paper in half horizontally.

8. 

   Stand the book with the creased side up. A diamond should form in the middle.

9. 

   Push the two ends together.

10. Take the left end and fold to the front to form a cover.

11. Crease the spine one more time and you are done. Decorate the cover if desired and fill in the pages however you wish.

Tips & Warnings

• Experiment with paper of different sizes and colors. A bone folder helps to get a sharp crease, but it is not needed.
