Writing Save the Date Cards
-
1
Pick your wedding date. This, of course, is the reason you are sending out save the date cards. You want everyone to have plenty of notice to reserve the date.
-
2
Decide what type of cards you want to send out. You can match the cards to the color of your wedding, pick a theme, make them postcard size, or even include a picture of you and your fiance.

-
3
Include on the card: bride and groom's names, wedding date and wedding location.
-
4
Add in any other information you think might be helpful. This could include airline and hotel information and a wedding website, if you have one.
-
5
Note that an invitation will follow, to avoid any confusion that this is the actual wedding invitation.
-
6
Mail the save the date cards.

Tips & Warnings
In general, save the date cards should be sent out four to six months before the wedding. If you are having a destination wedding or a wedding during a holiday season, send the cards out nine to 12 months before the wedding.
You do not have to send save the date cards to everyone on the guest list, but anyone who receives one must also receive a wedding invitation.
