How to Be a Pirate in Eve Online

Eve Online allows players complete freedom in their actions, and many choose the life of a pirate to take back from the giant corporations that infest space. This can be quite a challenge for new players unless they have a firm grasp of what ships, equipment and skills can make even a low-skill point character deadly in player vs. player ship combat.

Instructions

    • 1

Train the necessary skills to use your microwarp drive to at least level four, which is essential for closing quickly on ore harvesters or courier vessels. These skills are: High Speed Maneuvering, Navigation and Afterburner.

    • 2

Train your warp scrambler skills to level four as well. This will prevent your target from simply warping out of the area. They usually come back with friends in battleships or destroyers if you let them escape. The skills required are: Propulsion jamming and Electronics.

    • 3

Set up the armor and armaments of your frigate. Travel to 0.4 space and begin scanning the asteroid belts. (This is where solo miners make most of their ISK.)

    • 4

Select your target, but hold off on locking onto them until you are in scrambler range. Tipping them off to your intentions will result in them warping back to base.

    • 5

Scramble their warp drives and open fire. Smart harvesters will realize they are outgunned and offer you a truce to keep you from destroying their ships. If not, at least the debris will result in some good salvage.

Tips & Warnings

  • While destroying your opponent can result in valuable salvage, it is often more profitable to use the Start Conversation option once you have disabled them and force them to pay you more ISK.

  • Destroying ships and pods will result in a drop in your security rating, making you an outlaw in secure systems over time.
