When starting a Windows XP computer, an icon is shown with your login name. Windows XP creates a default icon, but you can customize the welcome screen and add your own personalized image. This is an especially novel, and useful, feature for people who have several users on one PC.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Click the Windows "Start" button and select "Settings." Double-click the "Control Panel" icon.

  2. Step 2

    Double-click "User Accounts."

  3. Step 3

Select a user account. (If you are an administrator on the computer, you can change others' icons, too.) Click "Modify Image."

  4. Step 4

Select a new image. Microsoft supplies a large selection of images in Windows XP that you can use on the welcome screen. Click "Find Other Images" to use your own picture.

  5. Step 5

    Click the "Change" button.

  6. Step 6

Reboot your computer. The new image is shown at the welcome screen.
