A handmade tea bag holder can be a whimsical and creative way to give the gift of tea. With simple patterned card stock and other basic crafting supplies, almost anyone can make a tea bag holder in a short amount of time. Tuck a bag of tea into the holder and tuck the holder into a card and you have a quick and easy way to let someone know that you are thinking about them.

Things You'll Need

  • Patterned card stock
  • Ruler
  • Scissors
  • Ribbon (3/8-inch wide organza)
  • Hole punch
  • Craft glue
  • 2 Clothespins
  • Cut the tea bag cover from patterned card stock. The dimensions are 7 1/2 inches long and 3 1/2 inches wide. Fold sharp creases along the dotted lines as shown in the diagram.

  • Cut the inside pocket from patterned card stock. The dimensions are 7 5/16 inches long and 5 3/4 inches wide. Fold sharp creases along the horizontal dotted lines as shown in the diagram. Tape the 1/4-inch fold closed to secure it.

  • Cut out two small 1/2-inch deep squares out of the sides of the pocket as shown in the diagram. These notches will make it easy to grasp the tea bag when it is in the pocket.

  • Place the tea bag cover onto your work surface with the wrong side facing up. Place the pocket onto the tea bag cover with wrong sides facing each other.

  • Punch a hole on each short side of the tea bag cover. The holes should be approximately 1/2-inch away from the edges.

  • Use craft glue to glue the two center spine sections together. Use clothespins to hold the pieces in place until the glue has dried completely.

  • Remove the clothes pins. Place a teabag into each side of the pocket. Fold the cover closed over the pocket. Thread a 5-inch length of ribbon through the holes of the cover and tie the ribbon in a bow.
