Things You'll Need:
- Tape measure
-
Step 1
Wrap the tape measure around your torso (right below your breasts). This measurement will give you your band size. If you get an odd number like 31, round up, because it is more comfortable to have the fit looser rather than tighter.
-
Step 2
Wrap the tape measure around your breasts, across the fullest part of your bosom. To get your cup size, subtract the band size number from this number. For example, if your second number is 33, and your band size is 31, subtract 31 from 33 to get 2. Cup sizes are as follows: 1 inch is an A cup, 2 inches is a B cup, 3 inches is a C cup, 4 inches is a D cup, and 5 inches is DD cup. Though your bra size gives you a good idea of a good fit, you should not stick to these sizes. Be flexible when shopping for a good-fitting bra.
-
Step 3
Approach a salesperson at the lingerie store. Many lingerie departments or stores offer bra fittings as part of their customer service. A popular lingerie store that does this is Victoria's Secret. Though you may have already determined your bra size, it doesn't hurt to seek professional assistance. Your self-measured bra size might not match the brand's measurements.
-
Step 4
Test the cup size. The perfect cup fit should have the bra lay flat against your breasts. There should be no spaces between your breasts and the cups. If there is, go down a cup size. If your breasts spill over the cups, go up a cup size.
-
Step 5
Test the straps. The perfect fit will have the straps lay flat down your back when you hook the middle hook. If the straps are too tight, even when you loosen them, go up a bra size. If the straps are too loose, even when you tighten them, go down a bra size.
-
Step 6
Move around to make sure the bra is comfortable. Attempt different movements; raise your arms and twist your torso to see if the bra stays comfortable in different positions.
