Most often only people with diabetes need to monitor blood glucose levels, which must be in balance to avoid dangerous spikes in blood sugar. Some diabetics need to check their glucose levels more often than others, so you should consult your doctor to see what is right for you. It is important to know how to use your glucose blood monitor properly.

Things You'll Need:

  • Soap and Water or Alcohol Towel Lancet Test Strip SMBG Meter
  1. Step 1

    Begin by washing your hands thoroughly with soap and water or cleaning the area to be lanced with alcohol and drying it completely.

  2. Step 2

    Prick your finger with a lancet.

  3. Step 3

    Hold the hand downward and squeeze the finger until a small drop of blood appears.

  4. Step 4

    Catch the blood on a test strip.

  5. Step 5

    Insert the test strip in the SMBG meter to record the result.
