How to Remove an Ad Banner in Opera Web Browser

Opera has a flexible ad-blocking feature. It only takes a few clicks to get rid of an ad. It works on several kinds of ads in addition to banner ads, including Google ads and video ads. You can easily select which ads you want to block and which, if any, you want to keep. It's also easy to unblock an ad if you change your mind. The ad-blocking feature is built into the Opera browser, so you don't need to an add-on.

Instructions

    • 1

Right-click on a blank part of the page where you want to block an ad, and select "Block Content" from the menu. All the ads and other page elements that you can block will remain in normal full color, while the non-advertising text will turn gray.

    • 2

Left-click on any ad that you want to block. A red bar that says "Blocked Image" will appear across the ad. You can block one, several or all of the ads on a page. If you block an ad and then change your mind, click on the ad again, and that will unblock it.

    • 3

Hold down the shift key while you click if you want to block only a specific ad, and not all the ads that are coming from the same source.

    • 4

Click the "Done" button in the upper left corner when you have finished selecting ads.

Tips & Warnings

  • Opera calls the ad blocker a "content blocker," so if you are searching the Opera help files for information, use that term. Advanced users can edit the ad filters for a page by clicking "Details" in the upper-left corner of a page that is in block mode. You can edit the filters for all pages at any time by selecting Tools --> Advanced --> Blocked Content from the top menu bar. To block ads from Vibrant (the video ads that pop up when you mouse over a double-underlined word), add http://*.*.intellitxt.com/* to the Blocked Content editing box.
