How to Use a Microsoft LifeCam

The Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000 is a webcam with a built-in microphone. The LifeCam is compatible with Windows XP with Service Pack 2 and later Windows operating systems. The LifeCam includes features such as a button on the top of the camera, designed for use with the Windows Live Messenger, a free instant messaging software application. You can use a Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000 to have a video-enabled Internet chat session through Windows Live Messenger.

      Place the Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000 in a position where it can capture an unobstructed view of you. Webcam users often place their webcams on top of their computer's monitor. Press the button on the top of the LifeCam. This opens your Windows Live Messenger software and displays a list of your online contacts.

      Click the contact in your Windows Live Messenger list with whom you want to have a video chat session, and then click "OK." This opens a chat window.

      Click "Video" in the chat window menu bar. This starts the video and audio broadcast. Speak into the LifeCam microphone or type a message in the chat window to begin your conversation. Video will be broadcast automatically to the contact with whom you are chatting.
