Bulletins boards can be the center of family or home office organization. Most, though, are utilitarian in appearance. The fabric ones can become frayed from overuse and might not hold items as well as traditional cork. You can have your cork and still make a fantastic bulletin board by using wine corks. You can save your wine corks and ask friends and family to do the same, or you can purchase wine corks from hobby and craft stores.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Corks Picture frame Utility knife Plywood Circular saw Pencil Wood glue Picture hook
  1. Step 1

Wash corks under running water to remove any wine residue and set out to dry for one or two days.

  2. Step 2

Trace the picture frame's backing board onto the thinnest plywood available at your hardware store. Cut the plywood along the traced lines with a circular saw.

  3. Step 3

Fit the plywood inside the frame and replace the backing board. Save the glass from the frame for future projects.

  4. Step 4

Cut each cork in half lengthwise with a sharp utility knife, replacing the blade when it becomes difficult to cut.

  5. Step 5

Glue each cork, cut-side down, onto the plywood. Work in horizontal rows starting at the top. You might need to trim corks to fit along the end of each row and on the final row, depending on the dimensions of your picture frame.

  6. Step 6

Allow the glue to dry completely, overnight or as directed on the package. Hang your new bulletin board using the existing hardware on the picture frame or by nailing a picture hook to the top of the frame.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use a metal picture frame so you can place some items on the frame with magnets.
  • Make sure wine corks are completely dry before using or they can mildew or rot. Where safety goggles and use caution when using power tools.
