There are a variety of issues you may experience with your Kenmore Elite dishwasher. Perhaps your dishwasher is not running properly, your dishes are not coming out clean or they are not drying. Maybe you hear noises when the dishwasher runs or the dishes are damaged during washing. What follows are some ways to troubleshoot the problems you may be experiencing with your dishwasher.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

    Quick Checks

  1. Step 1

If your dishwasher does not run or stops in the middle of a cycle, check to see if the door is closed and latched correctly. See if the door was opened midcycle or if there was a power failure while the dishwasher was running. If those are not the reason for your problem, make sure the right cycle is selected and that the water valve is turned on. Regular pausing is normal during certain cycles.

  2. Step 2

If your dishes are not clean at the end of washing, check to see if the dishwasher was loaded correctly. If the loading is not the problem, make sure that the water is 120 degrees Fahrenheit as it enters the dishwasher. If the temperature is too low, food soil may be left on the dishes. Perhaps you did not use the correct amount of detergent. You may need to increase the amount of detergent if you have hard water.

  3. Step 3

If the dishes are not dry at the end of the cycle, make sure that you loaded them to allow proper water drainage. Do not overload the dishwasher. You can check proper loading in the "Dishwasher Loading" section of your product manual. Using a liquid rinse aid will speed the drying process. Plastic items often need to be towel dried. Also, if you want dryer dishes, you need to use the "heat-dry" option and not the "air-dry" one.

  4. Step 4

If you hear unusual noises during dishwasher operation, check to see if a dish or cup is loose and being knocked around during the wash cycle. If you hear grinding, grating, crunching or a buzzing sound, chances are a hard object has gone into the wash module. Once the object is ground up, the noises should cease.

  5. Step 5

If your dishes are damaged during a cycle, make sure that you loaded the dishwasher properly. All glasses need to be loaded so that they do not touch each other during the washing process. Make sure to move the racks in and out slowly to avoid chipping.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always check manufacturer recommendations before making any adjustments to your Kenmore Elite dishwasher.
  • Wash by hand all antiques, feather-edged crystal and similar types of glassware and china to avoid damage.
