Things You'll Need:
- Hair color Developer Color bowl Color applicator brush Large tooth comb Towel Shampoo and conditioner Hand-held mirror
-
Step 1
Purchase a demi or semi permanent hair tint. Get a color that matches the natural color of your hair. These colors do not have the high level of peroxide of permanent colors and will not cover as well. If you buy an over the counter product, it will likely come with the developer in the box. If you purchase the color from a beauty supply store, you will need to purchase the developer that works with the product.
-
Step 2
Mix the color with the developer until it forms a creamy consistency. Use a color bowl and color applicator brush to stir the product until it is thoroughly blended.
-
Step 3
Comb the hair in the way it is most often worn. Use a comb with teeth approximately 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch apart to apply the product. Dip the color applicator brush into the tint mixture and paint the teeth of the comb to apply color to the comb. Starting on the sides of the hair, gently comb the product into the hair. Avoid the areas that you want to remain gray.
-
Step 4
Apply to the other side and back the same way. If you are applying the product to your own hair, hold a hand mirror in one hand in front of your face, while you have another mirror behind you. Look into the front mirror and adjust until you can see the back of your head. Apply to the back as desired.
-
Step 5
Apply to the top last. Put the color on in the direction of hair growth or style. You will periodically need to re- coat the wide tooth comb with color product as you do successive sections.
-
Step 6
Let the color process once it is fully applied. Leave the color on the hair for up to 30 minutes, or the time designated by the product instructions. Shampoo and condition to remove the product.
