Getting a teenager to clean a room can be a severely difficult task. Follow these steps to get your teenage son to clean his room.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Tell your son exactly what you want done. Some teens may need a bit more guidance than others, so you may want to break down the room cleaning into sections. Let him know that you would like all of the dirty clothes picked up, the furniture dusted, the floor swept or vacuumed, and whatever else you think needs to be done.

  2. Step 2

Set a time limit in which you would like the task to be completed. Let your teen know that if his room is NOT clean within that time frame, there will be consequences.

  3. Step 3

Take away some privileges if the room still is not clean within the time limit.

  4. Step 4

Mess up his room even worse if you have punished him and his room STILL is not clean. You can do this by dumping out all of his clothes onto the floor or totally mixing things up in the room so he has no idea where anything is. This will most likely make him very angry, but he will have to clean the room in order to find things that he needs.

on 7/27/2009 I came here on a search trying to find out how to get my teenage GIRLS to clean their rooms. After reading the title, I decided not to read the rest. I refuse to read something from someone that is biased and sexist. That probably won't register with you while you've got Gloria Steinem's latest work of mindless drivel in your hands, but maybe someday you'll learn that if you want females and males to be treated as equals....it kind of goes both ways.
