Step 1
Wear a glove if your hands are fragile. For new golfers, a glove may keep the player from having blisters that can crop up on hands that aren't used to gripping and swinging a golf club. A golf glove also gives the golfer a better grip on the club. Usually only one golf glove is worn and this is on the player's non-dominant hand. For ladies with long nails or large rings, there are golf gloves available with openings to accommodate the nails or rings.
-
Step 2
Purchase a golf accessory called a stroke counter to help you keep score. These come in a variety of styles and are simply used by clicking a counter or moving a bead to add to the score as each stroke is made. At the end of each hole, simply count the beads or look at the number of clicks and tell the scorekeeper.
-
Step 3
Buy a towel because golf can be wet or messy depending on the course conditions or the weather. All pro shops sell towels and other golf accessories with their logo. More simple towels are available at golf stores. Golf towels have a grommet with a ring in one corner to hook the towel to the golf bag for ease of use during play. Some styles may hook to the player's belt. It's a good idea to have at least two towels when playing a round of golf, one to wipe the face and hands and the other to wipe mud or other debris off the clubs or ball.
-
Step 4
Purchase an insulated cup or small cooler. A round of golf on a full-size course usually takes about four hours so something to drink is an absolute necessity, especially in hot or warm weather conditions. An insulated cup that will hold at least 12 ounces plus ice or a small cooler to keep drinks cold is a great idea. For golfers who prefer bottled water, simply freeze the water the night before the big round and as play progresses the water will thaw. Cut off the toe of an old sock and slip it around the bottle or buy a cozy to keep condensation under control.
-
Step 5
Keep the face from getting sunburned or the glare of the sun out of the eyes, by wearing a hat or visor. Hats may have a full, wide brim or be a simple baseball cap. Visors, which are worn more by female golfers, come in a variety of styles including those with stretchy straps or solid bands styled like the temples of glasses. Some of these golf accessories have bands that snap at different lengths for different size heads. There are also visors available that slip onto the golfer's glasses.
-
Step 6
Buy ball markers to mark the place on the green where the golf ball landed so that the player may pick it up to get it out of the way of another player's putt or to clean it. Ball markers are inexpensive golf accessories that come in a simple plastic design or in more elaborate styles. One such style is a magnetic marker with a holder that attaches to a visor or hat brim. After use, the magnet allows for easy reattachment of the marker to its holder.
