Cherished memories shared with those you love are those intangible reminders and thoughts that can’t be measured. But such activities are so rewarding, that we often try to create fun ways in which we can re-live those experiences. We save ticket stubs from movies and plays, and photographs from birthdays and holiday, etc. And during those times when we fondly enjoy those memories again and again, we pull out our stash of memoirs to help us relive those wonderful times.

So, in the spirit of cheering ourselves with paraphernalia from memorable past events, here is a new idea to try. Why not plan for times together with friends and loved ones for the purpose of making individual keepsake art projects together to display in the home or garden? Each art piece will be created one at a time, with all members of the group working on it together. Each person will get to keep the creation that they select for the group to make together. The finished projects can then be proudly displayed in the home or garden as a complement to the interior/exterior décor, and will also serve as a reminder of fun times spent together with good friends and family.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Form a group of any number of friends, old and/or new with whom you work well together. If everyone is in agreement, consider including a new friend who would more than likely interact well with the others in the group.

  2. Step 2

Call an informal gathering to explain your desire to meet regularly as a group to create individual keepsake art pieces that each of you will be able to keep and display in your homes/gardens.

  3. Step 3

Make a schedule that works best for everyone. For example, if there are five people in your group, select the five different days that work the best for all members of the group to gather together to create the art pieces.

  4. Step 4

Each member will host one keepsake art day at his/her home. The host will get to decide what type of art piece the group will create together on the day that everyone meets at his/her home. The host will also keep that particular art creation to display in his/her home or garden.

  5. Step 5

Provide the supplies that will be needed for the group to create the art project. This will be the responsibility of the host/hostess. However, there may be times when the art piece actually calls for the different group members to bring odds and ends from their homes to create the art project. The group should discuss and decide on this.

For example, the host might decide that he/she wants the group to make a keepsake art piece made from old jewelry that the group members do not wear anymore. Guys might be interested in creating a project from different sizes, colors and shapes of some of their old tools, etc. If the members are writers, articles written by the members can be used to decoupage a tall vase or an old bench. In each of these examples, the group members would provide the supplies.

  6. Step 6

Keep your options open. A host may venture away from the regular type of art session to decide that each member will work on their own individual project instead of everyone working together on one project that will be given to the host. A good example would be for all of the members to make their own “vision boards.”

  7. Step 7

Use any of the following Ideas to make Keepsake Art together with your friends or use your own ideas also!

    Wall hangings
Paintings for any room in the house
Paintings to hang on the patio
    Decorate flower pots together
    Decoupage Art
Decorate flags for the garden. Can be made with fabric, metal, etc.
Paint wooden deck chairs with whimsical designs. Maybe include your kid’s handprints.
    Decorate plates for kitchen display.
    And so on….. !!

Tips & Warnings
  • There is no limit to the different projects a Keepsake Art Group can create together.
  • The host should provide food and beverages.
  • Really encourage one another to display the created pieces in the home or garden.
  • Have fun!!
