Reduce Back Pain While Pregnent

The worse part about being pregnant, especially towards the end was the back pain. Just getting out of bed during pregnancy was a issue not to mention working a full 9 hour day at work. Here are a few ways that I tried that worked to relieve my back pain when pregnant.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Wear support hose. They can be found at most large clothing stores and they make some just for pregnant women with back pain.

  2. Step 2

Wear comfortable shoes. Not only will it help with the back pain it will also help with foot swelling. I also recommend wearing shoes you can easily slide on and off, so not to draw attention if you decide to take your shoes off in the middle of a meeting.

  3. Step 3

Take sitting breaks. If your job requires you to stand a lot ask your employer if you can bring a stool so you can take sitting breaks as needed. Just be carefully not to take advantage of the situation, or you may get the breaks taken away.

  4. Step 4

When standing, always stand with both feet on the ground, with your hips even with your feet. This so you are not putting more pressure on one given side

  5. Step 5

Watch how you sleep during pregnancy. Sleeping on your side with a pillow between your legs will help ease your back while your asleep, leaving it well rested.

  6. Step 6

Wear a maternity support back brace. They are built to relieve back, leg, stomach and abdominal pain. You can find more information at www.orthopedicquestions.com.

  7. Step 7

Take a walk. While the last thing that may be on your mind is to walk, sometimes while pregnant the nerves on the spine will tighten up and waling can help relieve the stress.

  8. Step 8

Sit up straight and try to maintain good posture.

  9. Step 9

A ice pack may also help back pain while pregnant. Try not to put it on longer then 10 to 15 minutes at a time. While heating pads may seem nice at this point most doctors advice against the use of heating pads while pregnant. So always talk to your doctor fist.

Tips & Warnings
  • If having severe back pain always contact your doctor or midwife. Severe back pain can be warning signs of problems.
  • Lying flat on your back after the first trimester not only will cause back pain, but in some cases can reduce blood flow to the uterus.
