Microdermabrasion exfoliates your skin by buffing away the surface layer of skin cells. However, microdermabrasion can be expensive, and can damage your skin of badly done or if the mixture is too harsh. If you have sensitive skin, or if you do not want to risk irritation or broken capillaries, you can make a mild microdermabrasion cleanser at home very cheaply.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Be sure you are using a natural soap; traditional bars of soap usually have harsh chemicals or artificial fragrances, which you do not want to use to scrub your skin. Natural soap is usually made of castile soap, saponified olive oil, or vegetable oil.

  2. Step 2

Grate the bar of soap using the cheese grater. Continue grating soap until it fills a tablespoon measuring spoon when lightly pressed in.

  3. Step 3

Dissolve the tablespoon of soap in three tablespoons of filtered water. Cover the container and set it aside, until the soap has completely dissolved. If the soap does not dissolve, slowly stir the mixture until it becomes jelly-like.

  4. Step 4

Add four tablespoons of baking soda to the mixture, and continue stirring until it forms a thick paste.

  5. Step 5

Mix in 5-10 drops of lavender oil for fragrance, and to soothe your skin.

  6. Step 6

Massage the cleanser into your skin, then rinse off. Store the excess in a tightly sealed container. This will make enough for several applications; if this makes too much cleanser then use teaspoons instead of tablespoons for the ingredients.
