Step 1
People usally start gathering their firewood for the winter in mid summer to get a jump start on winter.This also aid's in the grying process unless you cut alot of dead timber such as locust.We will start with cherry firewood since its the most popular.Cherry must be cut when still alive or its of little use.Pick your tree's you wish to cut up into section's and stack in row's 4 to 5 feet high supported at each end by roof bolts pounded into the ground and cover until seasoned about 3 months.

Step 2
Now you will want to make seperate stack's with hotter burning firewood.The btu range but the hottest is orange oshage,but stick with the most abundant type's.Locust is the best alternative in warmth and abundance.You usually can find a lot of this dead already and just saw it into peice's for stacking.Cutting it alive is fine to as long as you repeat the process in step 1.

Step 3
Step 3 is to make sure you have substantial amount's of starter wood.You can usally get all you want from your local sawmill if not you can find plenty in the wood's when cutting.You can grab a couple of boxe's for the side of your load every time you go out.You can also ask your local hobbiest for his scrap lumber he will happily help you in this matter.
