Draw a Storm Trooper

Storm Troopers grabbed the attention and the imagination of virtually everyone who saw "Star Wars." Traditionally, the bad guys in films and literature are dressed in black. However, the Storm Troopers wore shiny white plate armor. This contrast made them instantly recognizable and set them apart from anything audiences had seen before. By following these steps, you can draw a basic Storm Trooper in his full armored gear.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw the top of the Storm Trooper's helmet with a circle. Attach an upside down heart shape to the bottom of this circle. Create the chest with a trapezoid shape that is larger at the bottom than the top. Create the pelvis guideline with an upside down triangular shape. Attach the chest to the pelvis with a vertical line. Draw the guidelines for the shoulders, elbows and hands with small circles. Add the arms with diagonal lines that connect the shoulders to the elbows and the elbows to the hands. Add the legs with diagonal lines coming out of the hips.

    • 2

Draw parallel lines around the arms and legs to make the frame of the Storm Trooper thicker. Add an upside down V shape to the middle center of the helmet for the mouth speaker. Add two circles under the left and right sides of the mouth. Add a small triangular shape in between these circles. Draw a slightly curved line in the middle of the upper head circle. Add two triangular shapes under this line to create the eyes on the helmet. Add vertical lines coming down from the bottom left and right sides of the chest to connect it to the hips.

    • 3

Create the details on the armor of the Storm Trooper. Draw the shoulder armor with curved, upside down teardrop shapes at the shoulders. Add the forearm armor with slightly curved rectangles around the forearms. Add the hand armor with small upside down pentagon shapes inside the hands. Create the utility belt with a row of small vertical rectangles across the waist. Add the leg armor with a curved V shape at the top of each leg to denote the beginning of the leg armor.

    • 4

Add two curved lines to the left and right sides of the mouth speaker. Add six slightly curved vertical lines to the sides of the face near where the cheeks would be on a regular face. Add a box to the center of the stomach. Add vertical lines around the box to create the stomach armor.

    • 5

Ink the lines that you wish to keep. Do not ink any lines that overlap. Darken the eyes, the armpit areas, the area just above the forearm armor, the area around the hand armor and the area where the pelvis and upper legs connect. Let the ink dry completely and then carefully erase the pencil lines.

Tips & Warnings

  • Once you have mastered drawing the basic Storm Trooper, try putting together an illustration of a unit of Storm Troopers.

  • Be very careful not to smudge your illustration when erasing the pencil. Make sure the darkened areas are completely dry before erasing.
