How to Use Door Hangers

Door hangers are rectangular in shape and are longer than they are wide. They have a circular hole near the top to slide them onto a doorknob. Each door hanger contains a message for the person who wants to enter the room the hanger is placed on. This message can be personal, instructional or an advertisement. Sometimes door hangers are used for decoration.

Instructions

1. Use door hangers provided by a hotel to let the housekeeping crew know whether or not to clean your room. If you do not want your room cleaned, place the Do Not Disturb door hanger on the doorknob outside of your room. If you do want your room cleaned, flip the door hanger over and place it on the doorknob. There should be a message on that side requesting maid service.

2. Use door hangers to advertise your business. Have door hangers made with your business logo, company name and contact information. Hand them out or pay to have various hotels or office buildings hang them on their doorknobs.

3. Use door hangers to convey a personal message at home. For example, if you have a big test in history and you want to study, you can write "Quiet please, studying in progress" on a door hanger. Then hang that message outside of your bedroom door so that other family members know not to disturb you or make too much noise.

4. Use door hangers as reminders. Place family appointments on your door hanger and have all family members check it before heading out of the house. A door hanger can be placed on the door that all family members exit before heading off to school or work.

5. Place a door hanger on someone's front doorknob if they are not home and you need them to contact you. Many businesses use the "Sorry we missed you" door hanger. Under the message is the company's name and phone number. This is a smart use of a door hanger since it will be noticeable to any person who wishes to enter the house.

• Door hangers are inexpensive to make at home. Children and teens can use a piece of card stock and a marker. If you buy in bulk, you can purchase door hangers for as little as $0.08 per door hanger.
