How to Install Windows XP Ultimate

However, Microsoft is most likely known for its operating system. Windows has been around for years, mostly due to its user-friendly settings and capabilities to do almost anything. But, one of the few downsides is it must be updated every so often, just to stay current and compete with other operating systems. This is how to install Windows XP Ultimate.

      Insert the Windows XP Ultimate installation disk into the computer and restart it.

      Press "Spacebar" when asked if you would like to boot the computer from a CD.

      Hit "Enter" when the "welcome to startup" page appears.

      Scroll down the license agreement and press F8 to agree. You will not be allowed to install Windows XP Ultimate Edition if you do not agree.

      Press "D" when prompted to. This confirms you have backed up all information you wish to keep.

      Hit "L" when prompted to. This will erase the data from the hard drive.

      Press "Enter" to select "Unpartitioned Space."

      Press "Enter" again to select "Format the partitioned using NTFS file system." This will take 20 to 30 minutes, depending on the size of the hard drive, and will restart Windows Ultimate when completed.

      Select your user settings when the computer restarts (time zone, name information and so on).

      Type in the production key numbers when prompted. These can be found on the Windows XP Ultimate installation disk's case.

      Click "OK" for display settings, and then click "OK" for monitor settings. Windows XP Ultimate will complete its installation.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be sure to back up any information you wish to save before starting the installation. Save the backed up files onto a separate hard drive or removable disk. All files left on the hard drive will be removed during installation.
