How to Create Dog Tags
Dog tags are worn by dogs to identify the dog and its owner if the dog gets lost. The tag also gives contact information so that anyone who finds the dog can return it safely to its home. Children can also make their own dog tags for fun, whether or not they have a dog. They can wear the dog tags or put them on their stuffed animals. These tags are not for real dogs.

1
Measure out a rectangle on your shrinky dink sheet that is 3 inches tall and 1 1/2 inches wide. Cut it out with a pair of scissors.
-
2
Take your hole puncher and punch a hole in the rectangle toward the edge of the short side. The hole will be where you place the yarn that will act as the dog tag's chain.
-
-
3
Set your shrinky dink rectangle in front of you so that the smooth side is laying against the table. You also want to position the rectangle so that the hole is at the top.
-
4
Color the rough side of the dog tag. If you have a dog, consider drawing your dog on the tag. If you don't, draw any dog and then give the dog a name. Make up a fake address and phone number for your dog.
-
5
Place the shrinky dink dog tag on a baking sheet and begin preheating the oven to 325 degrees F.
-
6
Place the shrinky dink dog tag in the oven for 60 seconds. Do not go over that time for even 5 seconds or you could ruin the shrinky dink.
-
7
Wait another minute for the dog tag to cool off and then thread a piece of yarn through the hole in the dog tag. Cut the yarn long enough to go around your neck or the neck of your stuffed animal. Tie the ends together in a knot and your dog tag is complete.
